Penang Hill, the first colonial hill station developed in Peninsular Malaysia, has a long and vibrant history. It is located 821 metres above George Town and offers panoramic views of the city and a climate about five degrees cooler than the lowlands. As Penang Hill’s popularity grows issues such as available activities, overcrowding, and the extent of public amenities and infrastructure support will become increasingly prominent. If not addressed now they will depreciate the visitor experience and the site cultural significance in the longer term.
This study investigates and assesses the Penang Hill Summit Area and the Middle Station, lays out a placemaking strategy to inform the Penang Hill Summit Area Concept Master Plan.
